Golden Retrievers Rescues Breeders - Is This Breed Right For You?
Adult Golden Retrievers should reach heights to about 23-24 inches at the withers, but some animals can be even larger. They weigh about 75 lbs; females are a little smaller. Being rather large animals, Golden Retrievers require enough space in the house and at least a large fenced yard to have an opportunity to burn off extra energy. The ideal condition for this breed is a countryside, where the dog can be very active and run free.

Another disadvantage of Golden Retrievers is constant shedding. In spring and fall these dogs loose almost all their hair and even daily brushing and accurate grooming cannot save your house from hair lying around. If you are an immaculate housekeeper and want your house be always clean, this breed is not for you.
Golden Retrievers should be exercised on a daily basis, cold and rain is not an excuse to keep the dog at home for the whole day. These dogs are more social than most of the dog breeds. They need a lot of human attention and companionship. If you are absent for a major part of the day, it is not fair to keep a dog of this breed.
Golden Retrievers are not good as guard dogs, as they seldom bark when a stranger arrives. Most dogs of this breed lack a protective instinct, and you cannot rely on them. And the last but not the least, responsible ownership of Golden Retrievers may be very expensive - high quality food, professional grooming and preventative veterinary health care may cost up to per year.
