The golden retriever club promotes strict breeding guides for prime developement of the dogs and will have a picture example.
All purebred puppies should be registered by the AKC or any other national registry. The AKC will register any puppy whose parents were already registered, so it means nothing if the puppy has no medical certificate and a pedigree. Often to get registration papers and a pedigree the dog doesn’t have to meet any qualifications of temperament, health, behavior or appearance. Dogs can be registered without health or safety checks at all; the owner just has to pay for the registration.

Raising a litter is a very demanding project. Bitches of this breed usually have large litters, up to 16 pups. They need a warm, secure area when they are with the mother and a large area in the yard after weaning. Not every owner of a purebred dog has the facilities to properly whelp and raise purebred puppies. Raising purebred high quality pups requires time, specific knowledge and experience. The stud fee, vet care and high quality food for the bitch and pups are very expensive. If some health problem occurs, the expenses would be much higher.
