All dogs of this breed should display a kindly expression and possess an eager, alert and self-confident personality. Overall balance, temperament and working abilities are given more emphasis than any of his component parts. High quality males of this breed stand from 23 to 24 inches at the withers; females vary from 21½ to 22½ inches. Deviation exceeding one inch disqualify a dog from the ring.

As this breed is very popular in the USA today, many dogs are abandoned by their owners who were not ready for the responsibility of dog ownership. Practically all organizations of this type are volunteer-based and charitable, depending on the donations. Anyone is welcome to sponsor a dog if he/she has no desire to adopt it.
